The Problem

"1" Icon

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

Women who have experienced high levels of ACEs are more likely to pass on trauma to their children. These experiences affect their mental health, leading to anxiety, depression, and PTSD, which can negatively impact parenting styles and create a stressful home environment for their children. Additionally, individuals with a high number of ACEs are at increased risk for substance abuse as a coping mechanism, further perpetuating the cycle of trauma and addiction.

Parenting Practices

Trauma-affected mothers may struggle with consistent, nurturing parenting, leading to overprotectiveness or neglect. This increases behavioral problems in children and perpetuates trauma. Children in these environments are also at higher risk of developing substance use disorders to cope with their unstable home life.

3 Icon

Attachment and Bonding

Trauma can impair a mother's ability to form secure attachments with her children. This results in insecure attachment styles, which can perpetuate a cycle of emotional and relational difficulties across generations. The lack of secure attachment can lead to behavioral and emotional issues in children, who may also turn to substance abuse as a way to manage their unresolved trauma and attachment issues.

4 Icon

Bio and Socio-economic Factors

Trauma can cause epigenetic changes affecting gene expression related to stress, which can be inherited by offspring. Socio-economic stressors like poverty, discrimination, and limited healthcare access exacerbate trauma transmission, especially in marginalized communities. These factors create an environment that perpetuates generational trauma and addiction, as individuals often use substances to cope with ongoing stress and trauma.

Chayah 4 Pillars of Success
What is a Chayah Group

What is Chayah Group?

A Chayah Group is a community-based group consisting of 5 women and 2 leaders.

Each leader has worked through the material and been trained to lead chayah groups.

Chayah groups will work through various resources to promote healing and education while offering a safe space for children to play and build community.

Upon registration into the group, each woman is added to a private Chayah Community Group.

Our Process

"1" Icon

SPIRITUAL MENTORSHIP

We will work with every individual through their Faith walk. Spending daily time in the Bible, meeting with other believers, and working through Keys to Freedom discipleship study over the course of the first 8 weeks in the RP.

"2" Icon

EDUCATION

Each evening the RP will take part in a class that will teach about topics that will be useful in the core areas of reformation: social skills, financial skills, and setting healthy boundaries. These may come through community members sharing a message, or videos, or staff working through educational material.

3 Icon

NUTRITION/FITNESS

Each individual will set health goals during their time in the RP and meal plans will be created for the individual to follow to assist them in their nutritional and health goals.

4 Icon

COUNSELING

Everyone in the RP will have a group counseling session and a personal counseling session each week.

5 Icon

LIFE SKILLS

During the course of the RP, all members will participate in Life Skills classes to continue to help them grow in their transition. These could be budgeting, goal setting, social skills, creating a resume, interviewing, and goal setting. Some of these must be completed prior to completing the program.

6 Icon

COMMUNITY

Each individual will attend church and be a part of a small group to grow their faith community. Additionally, each member will have a mentor to talk to and walk with them through the program. They will also be encouraged to build healthy relationships with family and friends.

AFTERCARE PLANNING
